Before Dragonfire: what's confirmed, and what's just guesswork

TL;DR — Dragonfire launches August 31, adding a new realm (the Ancient Lands), a new raid boss (Azaryon), new gear (Dragon Armor), and a new mount (Fire Drake) earned by raising a Drake Egg. That much is officially confirmed. What isn't confirmed is which items will actually spike in price — and most "buy this now" advice floating around is a guess dressed up as certainty. The one thing worth doing before launch isn't picking a winner. It's staying liquid enough to react once real player behavior — not speculation — starts moving the market.

What's actually confirmed

Sandbox Interactive has officially confirmed the following for the August 31 launch:

  • A new realm, the Ancient Lands — floating islands reached through portals, with the Ashborn faction and wild Drakes
  • Dragon Sanctuary, a raid dungeon inside the Ancient Lands, requiring a coordinated group to enter
  • Azaryon, the Fire Dragon — described as the toughest PvE fight in the game to date
  • Dragon Armor, new gear crafted from dragon bones and wings, with new combat abilities
  • A Drake Egg, earned only by defeating Azaryon, which can be nurtured into a personal Fire Drake mount
  • Open-world dragon attacks across both the Royal Continent and the Outlands — open to solo players and guilds alike
  • A new fish and food item unique to the Ancient Lands, plus new lore content and Resource Guardians

Why "what will spike" is the wrong first question

It's tempting to look at that list and start placing bets — Dragon Armor will be expensive, transport mounts will spike, some raw material will run short. The problem is none of that is actually knowable yet. We don't know drop rates, crafting costs, how many players will realistically clear Azaryon, or how the new region's resources compare to existing ones. Guessing now is closer to gambling than analysis.

The better question is: where is player attention about to go? Major content drops don't just add items — they pull large numbers of players toward new activities, and that shift in where people spend their time is what actually moves markets, days before any single item's price does.

A watchlist, not a prediction

Instead of telling you what will rise, here's what's worth tracking once the update lands — and why each one matters:

What to watchWhy it matters
Dragon-related crafting materialsNew gear needs new inputs — worth seeing how fast supply catches up to demand
Combat consumables (food, potions)A harder raid boss usually means more prep and more retries, which burns through consumables faster
Drake Egg listingsThe real signal here is supply, not hype — if eggs turn out to be more common than expected, the "rare mount" premium may not hold
Whether Dragon Armor shows up in actual buildsNew gear that looks strong on paper doesn't always get adopted — watch what top players actually wear, not just what's available

None of these are calls to buy. They're the things we'll be checking in the days after launch to see what the market is actually telling us.

What's actually worth doing before August 31

Stay liquid. Don't lock up a large share of your silver in goods you can't sell quickly. The best opportunities after a major update usually show up once the market has moved but before most players have caught on — and you need cash on hand to act on them.

Thin out stock with no clear buyer. If you're holding a large batch of something with no specific plan for it, launch week is a reasonable time to convert it to silver rather than hope it gets more valuable.

Start a simple price log now. Pick a handful of items from the watchlist above and note today's price. Without a "before" number, you won't be able to tell whether a price change after launch is really about Dragonfire — or just normal market noise.

What we're doing next

Predictions made before launch are cheap. What matters is checking them against what actually happens. Our next report will cover the first days after Dragonfire goes live — what prices actually moved, where players actually went, and whether anything on this watchlist turned out to matter.

Confirmed details in this report are sourced from Sandbox Interactive's official Dragonfire update announcement and press coverage at time of writing. Everything else is our own analysis, not a guarantee — markets carry risk, and it's worth double-checking anything time-sensitive against the official update page before you act on it.
